Stevin R. Hoover, who holds an MBA from Boston University, started his own investment management firm in 1989 and went on to become one of Boston’s most respected and successful money managers. Then, beginning in 1998, he got hit by a personal tsunami of his own making. Says Hoover, “I lost my moral compass and made some dumb decisions.” After a multi-year SEC investigation, Hoover pled guilty in 2002 to one felony count and received an 18-month prison sentence for a white-collar crime.
Since prison, Hoover defines success in this way: (1) How good of a father am I to my daughter? (2) How good of a son am I to my elderly mother, who is coping with her difficult health issues? (3) How can I use my faith to make every problem an opportunity? and (4) How can I use my commitment to hatha yoga to develop the five aspects of mind that yoga teaches: faith, patience, determination, self-control, and concentration?
Clearly Hoover has re-entered society equipped with practical and workable techniques for living a successful life. In the process, he is changing lives and making a difference for others.
